Maison Frédéric Magnien
Grand Cru Red barrel
Tasted:Jan 01, 2008
Note:from Les Treux and Poulaillères
Producer note:See the comments for Domaine Michel Magnien above for importer information and vintage comments. Note also that for his 2006négociantwines, Magnien has simplified them somewhat by adopting certaincuvéenames like Coeur des Roches and issuing a number of old vines offerings at the villages level, the latter of which are particularly interesting. And in a few cases, he has replaced the term Vieilles Vignes with the name of acuvée. Note too that many of his in-bottle '05s are very special wines and worth close consideration.
Tasting note:A much more deeply pitched nose featuring a highly complexmélangeof red, blue and black berry aromas that also evidence notes of violets, anise, clove and cinnamon that slide gracefully into round, rich, intense and velvety flavors brimming with dry extract that largely if not completely buffer the tannins on the moderately chewy and hugely long finish. It's rare for an Ech to potentially top the collection ofgrands crussuch as Magnien has in his line up but that's what the early potential here suggests.
