Producer note: Jean-Nicolas Méo describes 2018 as a "hot and precocious vintage that made for very high fruit maturities. The growing season didn't have too much drama as the flowering passed very quickly which made for uniform ripening at the harvest. There was a severe attack of mildew though we came out of it largely unscathed. I chose to begin picking on the 29th of August though we did not pick in our usual order as the heat seemed to alter the typical ripening patterns so that caused us to rethink our logistics somewhat. Yields were very good and the fruit was exceptionally clean though there was still quite a bit of sorting as I wanted to eliminate any wilted or over ripe berries. Potential alcohols were very good but I was relieved to find that we had no wines come in over 14%. By contrast the post-malo pHs were on the high side, ranging as they did between 3.6 and 3.8. The good news is that there was a reasonable amount of tartaric acid so the wines don't really seem as though the pHs are higher than normal. As to the style of the 2018s, they remind me of the 2009s or, going back a ways, a blend of 1985 and 1989." See also the reviews for the Maison Méo-Camuzet Frère et Soeurs wines directly below. Tasting note: A deft application of wood sets off fresh and surprisingly elegant aromas that include the essence of red cherry, earth and a whiff of newly turned earth. The supple and rounded medium-bodied flavors are not especially dense but I like the vibrancy and texture while the impressively long bitter cherry pit-tinged finish tightens up substantially. Very good quality here as well.
