Producer note:Geoffroy Choppin de Janvry succinctly observed that 2020 was "yet another hot and very dry vintage that has seemingly been the rule since 2018 but, like 2019, one that has better acidity and freshness than 2018. One difference though between 2019 and 2020 is that the latter was notably more precocious; in fact two to three weeks in advance. We picked from the 28th of August to the 1st of September and while the fruit was quite clean, it was not especially abundant at an average of 30 hl/ha. Potential alcohols were more generous in that they came in between 14 and 14.2% save for one at 14.9%. I used varying amounts of whole clusters, from zero to 100%, during what I would describe as a very soft vinification. Oddly enough for a vintage that had very little malic acidity, the malos definitely took their time to finish, though in our very cold cellars, that isn't all that unusual. Stylistically, the 2020s are a bit like the 2019s in that they're definitely ripe but they don't necessarily drink like it. Moreover, there is excellent density which should permit the reds to drink reasonably well young, but they should age effortlessly as well." Tasting note:This is also attractively floral in character with its array of violet, lavender and rose petal nuances on the softly spicy black cherry liqueur scents. Once again, the medium weight flavors possess a really lovely texture that tightens up on the dusty, firm and serious finale that is slightly better-balanced. Lovely and worth your consideration.
