2021 - 2038
This is a blend of equal parts Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Syrah and Sangiovese from 20-year-old vines aged in oak for 18 months. The Michele Satta 2017 Bolgheri Superiore Piastraia offers intensity and bold fruit with plenty of rich blackberry, dried cherry and toasted spice. The is a full and generous wine from a hot vintage that does not hold back in term of fruit density or intensity. It would welcome some pork-filled ravioli. The soft tannins add to the wine's balanced full-bodied approach. Some 35,000 bottles were made.
Michele Satta did not make his Syrah in the 2017 vintage due to severely reduced yields (a common problem in this hot and dry vintage). Some of that fruit was blended with Sangiovese to make the 2017 Bolgheri Superiore Marianova.
