2019 Mountain Cuvée Proprietor’s Blend
Winemaker Phillip Corallo-Titus
The Wine Blended from the traditional Bordeaux varietals, including our own coveted grapes, the Chappellet Mountain Cuvee Proprietor’s Blend builds on our five decades of experience crafting great Napa County mountain-grown wines. Each component varietal in the cuvée contributes nuances that complement each other. The result is a complex array of aromas and flavors that deliver pure pleasure in a glass. Made for more near-term enjoyment, this is the wine to choose when you’re looking for vivid, mouthfilling fruit flavors. Growing Season & Harvest The 2019 growing season began with cool, rainy weather throughout winter and spring, which delayed budbreak slightly and resulted in a robust crop and vigorous canopies. To create the desired vine balance, we thinned leaves and clusters extensively, doing as many as three fruit-dropping passes depending on the needs of each vine. The weather remained temperate throughout summer, followed by perfectly timed warm weather in October. As a result, early ripening grapes yielded wines with dazzling aromatics, lovely energy and pure, fresh flavors, while our later-ripening varieties provided gorgeous color and concentration, with supple tannins and rich, soaring flavors. Tasting Notes This alluring Bordeaux-varietal blend displays aromas of concentrated fruit and spice, with layers of red currant, cassis, cinnamon, vanilla and clove, as well as hints of earthy forest floor, wild sage and sweet toasty oak. On the palate, plush, impeccably balanced tannins carry the lush red and black fruit flavors to an elegant, lingering finish.
