Deep garnet-purple in color, the 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon (100% Cabernet Sauvignon) sashays out of the glass with beautiful blueberry compote, plum preserves and warm cassis notes plus wafts of candied violets, cedar chest and iron ore with an earthy touch of underbrush. Full-bodied, rich and seductive, the palate has a wonderfully plush texture and just enough freshness to support the generous black fruit preserves and earthy/minerally nuances, finishing very long and fragrant. 465 cases were made.
This existing Coombsville vineyard (near Meteor) was recently purchased and developed into this new project. Judging from the three vintages of Cabernet Sauvignon produced so far, a clear vision for quality and necessary resources have been applied. Michael Wolf is the vineyard manager, and Celia Welch is winemaker—the same dynamic duo behind Scarecrow. The 2016 vintage, in particular, vividly demonstrates the potential for greatness here. As the team gains experience working with this vineyard/fruit, I anticipate this place will produce a fresh, fragrant, vibrant expression of this corner of Napa Valley at the pinnacles of quality. If Rewa sticks to this path, it will undoubtedly gain a huge following along the way.
