Tasting Notes
As the inaugural release of Campolupi Gran Selezione, this wine is sourced from high elevation Sangiovese blocks at 550 meters (about 1804 ft). Campolupi, meaning “Field of Wolves,” is a nod to the wolves that again roam the hillsides surrounding the vineyard blocks. This initial release is stunning, with enticing aromas of violets, ripe plums and black pepper. The wine is voluptuous and full bodied, finding a beautiful balance between Sangiovese's racy acidity and Colorino's round intensity. Flavors of blueberries and cassis explode on the palate, complemented by herbal notes of sage and rosemary. The lingering finish exudes hints of cedar and forest floor.
