Score: 91
Tasted: Jun 10, 2024

Outstanding
Note: 80% of the blend is from the lieu-dit Ez Crets within Maltroie and the rest is from Fairendes within Boudriotte
Producer note: Jean-Pierre Cournut unequivocally called 2022 "a great vintage. It is more precise than 2020 and more readable as well in terms of the underlying terroir. I love the style and the quality and this is true for both colors. The growing season was straightforward with no disease pressure of note. We began, and finished, the harvest in August, which is to say between the 25th and the 31st. Yields were also much more generous than they were in 2021 as between 35 to 45 hl/ha for the chardonnay with a bit less in pinot. Potential alcohols were good but not high with between 13 to 14.1% in red and an average of 13.5% for the whites. I have changed the cuvaison time for the reds by extending it to 25 to 28 days from 17 to 19 days. As to the wines, I am just really excited by how good they are because they are exciting wines!" I completely agree with Cournut as he has once again crafted some really beautiful whites and every one of them is warmly recommended. Cournut noted that the 2022 whites were bottled in October 2023. Tasting note: A phenolic character (think olive oil nuances) is present on the ripe white orchard fruit and floral aromas that are trimmed in just enough wood to bother mentioning. There is excellent volume to the caressing but punchy medium-bodied flavors that flash a touch of minerality on the balanced, clean and nicely dry finale. This could use better depth but a few years of bottle aging should help
