The 2017 Chianti Classico Rubiolo (100% Sangiovese) shows a delicately spicy side to the bouquet with cherry and blackberry that is nicely ripened but not overripe. This is an extremely balanced and precise wine. I can't image that these results were easy to achieve given the harsh, hot and dry conditions of the growing season. The finish is soft and velvety. Pair this with a rabbit dish. With 47,000 bottles made, you get fantastic value here.
The folks at Gagliole have finished building a new winery at their property in Panzano in Chianti. Fruit will be processed there for the first time with this 2019 harvest. The next project to be completed is a sales point and events center. Currently, Gagliole makes its wines at its facility in Castellina in Chianti, but the entire production process will be moved to the new winery in Panzano in 2020. The estate is also planting 2.2 hectares of new vines in Badia a Passignano.
